"A Team Effort:Participatory Ergonomics and Your Workplace" introduces and describes the Ergo-Team approach to participatory ergonomics. In this video, an ergonomist is invited into a workplace to help address some substantial problems with work-related musculoskeletal disorders in the plant labour force. The approach includes establishing a joint management-worker Ergo-Team, training team members in basic ergonomics and helping them carry out their first ergonomic assessment. The Ergo-Team writes a report based on its assessment and presents the report to the Joint Health and Safety Committee which, in turn, forwards the report to management.

Dynamic work operations and limited resources pose challenges for development and maintenance of an ergonomics program in small and medium-sized enterprises. The Ergo-Team approach can help overcome these challenges by allowing the company to build in-house ergonomics capacity under the guidance of an ergonomist. With adequate time, training and support the Ergo-Team can become a sustainable component of company operations and encourage proactive approaches to injury prevention.
